Help - My goose is pretty sick

Thread Starter

I went out to feed Goose-Goose. He's a canadian goose that we raised. We live in MN. His balance is off, he's lethargic, with trouble walking. Kind of flaps his wings and falls. He has not been not eating much this week. He has always gone through periods of not eating much, then eating like crazy. I feed him cracked corn and all flock pellets. He has diarrhea. He was doing fine up until the last cold snap started this week. His breathing is a little raspy, and he has no energy. Any suggestions? My vets know nothing about birds.

You may also want to post on the goose thread under Forum, and scroll down to Other backyard poultry. All I can suggest is to bring him to a warm place, and offer him vitamins and electrolytes in his water, trying to get him to drink. Pedialyte or Gatorade will work in an emergency.

This happened to my RIR hen and we took her to the vet. He gave her antibiotics and now she is fine. I suggest you take home to the vet and see what they can do. Good luck! Hope he gets better soon!!!

There are a couple goose/duck folks on the Surviving Minnesota thread that raise geese & ducks who may or may not know something that could help.

Best of luck.
