You did everything to help her and loved her - that's the most important thing.

@chickychick211 Just love her and try to do the best you can like SuperChickRuth did. I'm sorry to hear your girl is not doing well.

Thank you, Wyorp Rock, for posting and helping us out with advice!

I can't believe how crushed I am, though, and it sounds silly because it's just a chicken! But she was a sweetheart, and she was really loved here. I hope she knew that.

She was lovely.
I have 2 Barred Rocks myself and enjoy them very much (I enjoy all my girls and my one BO boy too).
They do catch your heart, so, not always "just a chicken".
Go out and spoil your other girls for a couple of days...chicken therapy

Okay, another question.

Cricket's sister- Ruth, seems to also have a swollen abdomen, but she's not doing the penguin walk, and looks fine. She is laying, but not that frequently. I'm just wondering if we should drain her or what. Don't want to catch it too late.

So, to sum it all up, can chickens have a large abdomen and be fine?

[/IMG]How would i go about draining a swollen abdomen? She eats, drinks and poops solid poop. Waddles because of the heavy abdomen. I checked internally for egg or blockage. Found nothing. Could draining be the wrong way to go? P.s.she is a silkie.

Sorry, tifsunkip, I wasn't keeping up with this thread and just saw your post. In draining an abdomen, get a syringe, sterilize it in alcohol, and the gross part, insert it- not too far in- and slowly draw fluid out. There's videos of this process all over. Your gal does look like she's got ascities- which I believe is the correct name for this condition. I would drain her- it'll help her her feel more comfortable.

Thanks superchickruth. I did see it on line. She acts like normal and swelling is less. Still swollen, but doing very well. I guess we will just keep a good eye on her. But thanks for the response:)
