My welsummer hen is a year old today! We bought her at tractor supply on 02/15/2015 (they were 2 days hatched at the time).

Due to a dog attack, a child attack, and a mystery disappearance, she's the last of my original flock! She's a beautiful bird with so much personality! She's a great layer and a wonderful pet!

Penny is beautiful. Sorry about your loss though.

I just love the color of her eggs! I've got to Cuckoo Marans that has recently started to lay, and they lay beautiful chocolate brown eggs as well! Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

Thank you, both! She truly is a great girl. I'm lucky she was my very first pet chicken. Every single egg of hers I set produced a chick (though it was an abnormally high boy to girl ratio at 9:2)! So I'm hoping to get more just like her!

She doesn't look too bad for a mother of 11,huh?!

B., I have seen some absolutely amazing chocolate eggs from black copper marans that I thought must be photoshopped until I saw them in person! I hope your girl's get that dark! Penny lays between dark russet and light chocolate, only giving two dark ones (that my rooster ATE!!!). I love that all my hens give different colours! Not only are they beautiful, but they take the guess work out of who's laying!
