I’m new to BYC and I wanted to start a thread of my own. I’ve been cruising the forums for the past few weeks reading about everyone’s experiences. I live in an urban city (Long Beach, CA) and rooster’s aren’t allowed but after talking to the SPCA here, they notified me that if my neighbors are okay with them, they don’t mind.
About a month ago I came across a craigslist ad and someone was giving away free Serama roo’s so I decided to check them out. Long story short I came home with a trio. I purchased two laying pullets for $30 each from the same breeder. I’ve read about Traditional vs American and honestly I can care less. A nice bird is a nice bird and my boy and gals are nice birds in my eyes. Both gals have gone broody on me. In total they’ve laid 21 eggs but I didn’t want them to sit on too many so I only gave them 6 each. The first broody began to set on January 28th so she’s due in a little under a week (keeping my fingers crossed they’re all fertile). The second went broody a few days ago and she should be due on March 1st
I created a post in the Hobbies section and didn't realize it so I moved it to here. I wanted to see if anyone is hatching Seramas at the moment. Please share your stories, I wanted to document my own hatch.
This little guy may seem like he has a long back but he was stretching himself in this photo. His name is Jax.
This is little Sona. She was the one who recently went broody.
And finally my favorite, Spot. She's a Malaysian hen according to the breeder.
