Let my girls inside today...

That's funny DD! I wish I could spoil my chickens like that! Yes, they are nosy little creatures. When the weather is nice and Jim accidentally leaves the door open, I'll hear a Bwaaaaack (very quite), only to turn around and see my Betty edging her was through the threshold. I'll let her investigate for a bit, then gently shoo her back outside....only to find Mama and Priscilla doing the same.

My first "hands on" experience of chickens was while staying in a small house in a school compound in Kenya, there where two chickens, I think that they where a mature hen and her pullet daughter. The hen came scratching at our back door every day, we would let her into the house and into a cupboard by the door, she'd spend a little while in there in a "nest" of plastic bags, then make a few loud clucks, we'd let her out and collect our daily egg. After a few weeks of that, the daughter would come scratching at our door every few days and would give us a little egg. By the time we left we had a very reliable 2 eggs a day, we never encouraged them to hang out near our house or invited them in, but once they started coming we settled into the routine!

What a great story and memory for you! I love my chickens so much I can't stand it. Watching their day to day activities and habits is so interesting to me.
