Cantaloupe - A first look.

How cute, lol. It probably seems very sweet to them. Mine haven't cared for bright colored things. Carrots, pumpkin and tomatoes have all been ignored and stomped into the mud. EXCEPT goldfish, the only orange "food" my ducks will eat lol. Haven't tried watermelon yet tho...
Part of the appeal for my ducks is if they can rip it up. That is why we hardly cut up anything for them. I think if I chopped up a tomato into bite sized pieces, they would look at me like I was crazy, but they love running around the yard ripping up a whole tomato (and very seldom to they eat an individual piece that is even the size of half a grape tomato and on the rare occasions that they do, it only has the "hard" skin on one side so it slides down much easier.) If I chop up a bunch of romaine, they will nibble at it. My wife tears pieces off and throws them to each duck and they usually eat the pieces. If I hold out individual leaves, they are more enthusiastic, but if I hold out the whole head, they are like piranha on a water buffalo. They love the tearing and rending.

The funniest thing ever was last summer after they had eaten a dozen or so watermelons (they got watermelon just about every week), I took one out and set it down whole. They were all excited and ran up to it and pecked at it for about 20 seconds or so and did no damage to it whatsoever. Then as a flock they stopped got quiet and looked up at me like "fix this..." I cut it in half and then they had a field day with it.

As expected, it was a success. This time the ducks were up to the challenge of getting the flesh out of a half cantaloupe because they knew what they were fighting for. The last pic in the series is about 20 minutes after the melon was put down. @Julie Bird I know you will notice Mystique's blueberry speckled webs on the last pic :D
LOL TONY. You are funny. You've got me dialed in. Her blueberry speckling upon her webs is a very nice accessory to her very pretty body. You have to admit nature is neat the way it does the coloring and wardrobe tie ins with burd.

That is an interesting observation of how their psyches work.
