Help, my chicken are goat dewormer

Thread Starter
Hi all, I am in need of some advice. My chickens ate a couple pellets of goat dewormer that contains morantel tartrate. They foraged through a pile of straw/feed that I swept out the garage. A mouse ate through the bag of goat dewormer and the chickens found it. I am using the eggs from my chickens to hatch, and am wondering if they are safe? Are the eggs ok to eat also? Any advice would be great.

Sorry I posted this on the wrong thread. I'm new to this site. I have been keeping chickens about 2 years and love it. My first flock of chickens were buff orpingtons and were attacked sadly after about 10 months by a raccoon. My new flock consists primarily of ameracauanas and they are doing great. We recently started incubating our own eggs, and need advice on the dewormer issue. Thank you.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I've never had chickens eat goat dewormer so I can't answer your question, but hopefully someone on our Emergencies/Diseases/Injuries and Cures section in Raising BackYard Chickens under the Forum at the top of the page can,  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad to have you onboard. Similarly to other members, i have no experience re: goat de-wormer and chickens, so I'll leave that to the experts.

All the best

I don't know anything about goat wormer - if the mice end up dead - that would be revealing.  At any rate,  I wouldn't eat the eggs.  You may want to post at "emergencies, diseases, injuries , cures,"  thread to see what others think about the risks.Maybe  you can list the ingredients off the package.  Meanwhile put the goat wormer in mouse proof container, so it doesn't happen again.
