Just signed up! Currently have 5 roosters & 3 hens, they were rescued injured or a couple I've raised from chicks, plus a bunch of ferals my dad feeds.
Aloha, and welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. My family and I lived in Hawaii for 23 years (my son-in-law and granddaughter were born there) before moving to Montana and we are well aware how many feral game chickens there are on the islands. They are poor layers but very hardy birds. I would strongly recommend removing some of your roosters from your flock and getting some more hens as the recommended ratio of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. As they mature and their hormones kick in, too many roosters will become very hard physically on your hens, over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, causing a reduction in egg production, and potentially, seriously injuring them. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck w' da flock.
