Hello I have noticed one of my girls is looking like she is older and is getting ready to pass. I'm just wondering if this is old age or is she sick. She has gotten really weak and now I went to the coop for their daily oatmeal and change of water and she fell over like her legs are giving out on her. She doesn't have her tail feathers up her back end is always down and by the looks of her face to me she looks old. When they free roam the other day I noticed she was just sitting on the same spot for hours until I went out with some scratch and she did come over to get some but idk of i should bring her in my garage so it's a little warmer for her and if she is really dying of old age or if she is sick. If anyone has any info I would like some opinions please and thank you smile.png

Hi! Sorry to hear about your hen! My hens that came from a hatchery really only lived to be around 5 years nod and kind of did like how you describe yours. If she sort of waddles like a penguin, she may be internally laying, unfortunately fairly common in older hatchery hens. I just helped mine to be as comfortable as possible. If you do bring her in at night to be warmer, I'd bring a friend with her. Being away from everyone can be pretty stressful as well. Good luck with her!

We have had her for 2 years and when we got her she was already a few years old at least but today I brought her in the garage just to check her out and I could literally just push her gentle towards the side and she would just lay on her one side I took a picture of her earlier also but she ate some scratch I was giving her and she also has a bunch of stuff stuck to her under the tail feathers also had Oder because of that. I cleaned her up as much as I could and she woukd just have her eyes closed well more like noting out even when I took her back into the coop she just stood there noting. Balance is off slightly to. Thank you so much for your response

Yes, I had one just like that, a 5 1/2 year old production red. I brought her in and gave her a bath and then blow dried her. She really seemed to enjoy both the bath and the dry. Fed her some scrambled egg. Next day she passed in her sleep. I hope all goes as well as possible for you.
