How do I give away all these unwanted ducks?! - Page 3

Buck Oakes, I imagine the swimming pool neighbors wern't very happy to have ducks in their pool. Decorative, but not so sanitary. I posted in the "Where Are You" section and it'd be Heaven if someone with a big trailer could take these ducks to a pond. Yesterday when I pulled into the yard, a big duck hit the top of my car and promptly pooped down the side windows. Also, we have a small in-ground fish pond that had koi fish in it. Fish were beautiful, about 5 years old. Ducks naturally went over the stiff wire covering to sit in the water. The chemistry of the duck poop in the water resulted in all the koi dying.

That's a tough situation. I would firstly make sure you are clear of any legal trouble. Inform your neighbor that the ducks are damaging your property and that they have to contain them to their yard or you will have to have them removed. It would be best to have some documentation of this so that the neighbor cannot pursue legal  action later. In the likely event they do nothing I would post them on craigslist and hope there is some interest. Although if they are not for food there will either be no interest or people will most likely lie and eat them anyway. You can try calling animal control as well if you wanted to go that route. Best of luck, I have had ducks I couldn't get rid of before too. I bought Mallards from TSC, raised them, offered them for sale. People ran from them bc of the legal issues of owning wild waterfowl. They were domestic and I bought them from the local TSC. Still couldn't get anyone to take them.

I KNOW, I meant by that was, find someone who has a big pond who will take are of them and ask them to take them. We do that, we have a 60 acre pond and we've taken a lot of ducks and we have huge pen and house for them.

Follow the legal path. If animal control determines that they are abandoned you can claim and raise a few in a controlled and responsible manner. Your husband needs to learn what the food chain is and that these animals are not sentient. I've been on the profitable side of this kind of situation before. My home county used to pay for killbproofs of foreign species. Muscovies, coy dogs, walking catfish, regular coyotes. Hell used to get urban white tail licenses before I enlisted.
