Baby Quilts I am working on. OPIONS WANTED

One of the baby quilts I plan to make uses panels by Darlene Zimmerman. I will trim the animal blocks out and use my own fabric and colors to use around the animals. In one scheme I have greens and in another I do not. The teal/ blue is for corner stones and the border. what do you think, with or without green? I plan to use the pattern that the panel is featured with but I am using other 1930 fabrics that have more kid prints on them.

Looking at it I think the greens compete too much with the teal corner stones and teal border fabric.

Also I am undecided about the color strip around the animals. Should I reduce my color scheme or increase it?

This will be a quilt for a baby girl. The top picture shows how pattern is as designed by Darlene Zimmerman but I will not be using this color scheme or fabrics.

I just realized it will be wide enough without the border so I can maybe use that fabric as backing. It is on the bottom left.

I have several quilts passed down to me but I am not a quilter. Yours will look lovely, the animals are wonderful.

If I'm understanding, I think using the green for a backing would be very nice and you wouldn't have the worry of the color clash.

I agree. Without the greens. I don't know exactly why, but maybe it does clash with the teal. The teal will pop a little more with out the green. I would have to see more of the border print to make an opinion on that. It takes me a long time to decide on things like that! I think this is an adorable quilt! Where do you get your fabrics? I love 30-40-50's prints!!

Tthis is not the line I bought but it is the line that will make the quilt as shown in the picture with the pattern. I bought multiple panels off of etsy. I think they have more if you are interested in the panels only. I thought it was a great way to use up scraps of 1930 fabrics and that is mostly what I have. the panels would easily lend themselves to any pattern to make a quick baby quilt. this pattern as above with all the flying geese is a maybe a little more intensive. the pattern is free online.

I really like it because all the prints have little animals or items like baby shoes on it. I justified the big splurge because it is birthday month and I have several grand children expected this summer. Most of my 1930 fabrics is scraps I bought from other people or traded. Having a set of coordinated fat quarters helps me use and tie together the scraps also. I then sort them by size and color. I just bought some off of Connecting threads and got some backing 4 yards for about $12.50. It shreds more readily but over all has a nice hand, a bit heavy, and is affordable.

I like collecting reproduction fabrics like 1930s or Civil War because they are timeless to me.

That is going to be so cute, but I would leave out the greens they don't seem to be pastel. Can't wait to see it finished, so are you going to make the flying geese?

Yes I plan to do the flying geese. So it will be the same pattern but I will use different 1930 fabrics then are shown in the top picture. I might also add a border.

I advise to add a border for a baby quilt. They get a lot of wear and tear - the one I made for my nephew needed repair on the worn out binding twice. I was glad to have enough border to trim it up and just apply a new binding.

Try checking out Thousandsofbolts.com that is running a sale on quilt fabrics for $4.95 a yard....great designer fabrics. That site has lovely 30s, 40s and 50s prints as well as Civil war prints....my go to site for quilting
