Need advice ASAP!- Roo tore comb 1/2 way off hen and...

it won't stop bleeding. The comb is flapping in her face, but still attached. She keeps shaking her head and making it bleed alot. I currently have her isolated in a box in house. I don't know if I should cut it off (ewww) or ??? I would say there is approx 1/2" torn of the base of her head, torn forward. If it is cut off, won't it bleed more? If cutting it off is what to do...um...how do you do it? Would cutting the comb be like cutting our finger off???

Also, why does the blood stink?...silly question, but one I had....

Hopefully someone who has experienced this will chime in, but I would be tempted to trim off the flapping part since that seems to be bothering her and making it continue to bleed. Use very sharp scissors. Blood stop powder, styptic pencil, or flour can help clot the blood. Many people dock combs in certain breeds. Let us know how she gets along.
 
I just tried cornstarch, still bleeding. I found a post of someone who said to put a bandaid on it...she just scratched it off. oh my...I'm trying not to have to trim it....

well, I cut the torn comb off...and it is still bleeding, even after putting on cornstarch again. So the blood keeps running down her face and she keeps shaking her head..then it keeps bleeding. any other ideas???
 
Hold a paper towel on her comb! My roo had a spur ripped off and it wouldnt stop bleeding. You need to apply light pressure and hold for about an hour to make a blood clot to stop the bleeding. The comb did not need to be cut, please do not cut the rest off. They need their comb to circulate blood flow. Good luck!
 
There's a sulfur powder used to stop bleeding when cutting dogs nails too short, call the Pet Store or Feed Store. If you hadn't cut it off, I'd say try a Vet to sew it? Don't know but as CochinBeauties stated, direct pressure for a while but a Vet maybe able to cauterize? Good luck and hope the bleeding stops.

I would agree that gentle pressure will help, but to say that the flapping comb did not need to be trimmed is only your opinion. That is what we all do here, give our opinions, and the OP can then make up their own mind. There have been many threads here with stories about wounds with flaps still attached, and many people will post to remove the flap, and some will say not to. Since she was shaking the partially severed comb, I felt that by removing the flap, it might help to stop the bleeding.
 
Thank you for clarifying Eggcessive. Still a bit new, (but learning quickly!) after trying many things, I made the best 'call' with the information I had at the time. Not to mention, I live an hour from the city, so a trip to vet or store for supply was not an option....
She has since stopped bleeding. As I can best tell, as soon as she stopped shaking her head (b/c the dangling comb was in her face) it allowed the wound to clot.
I think she will be fine... thank you for all your input.....
