Time to Publish Information to Prevent Duck Dumping

Hi, all,

I saw that Nettie made a PSA on domestic animal dumping - she covers a number of species, and I think she says it very well.

I have written letters to the editor in the past, and aim to do so again this year.

It's a good time to start, as little critters are already showing up in some stores.

Improvements have been made in regards to stores making changes in policy over the last couple of years.  And we still need to remind and educate our neighbors.

So.

What a shame to all people that does that to all of there animals it's a living thing and they rely on u to take care of me and then they grow up and u just throw them out to fend for them selves and think they will be ok some animals die once they are given to other families because of being home sick as it is true for an animal to be home sick cause my friend gave away her Guinea pigs to someone else after she got a ferret and they had died the same day and they weren't even that old so I know they didn't die of old age but that's not the Point they rely on u to take care of them and u just abandoned them to be left to tend for them selves and find food shelter water and yet avoid animal abusers Hawks dogs there is a list of things that could hurt or even kill them what a shame

Yes, Roada, it's sad and many folks don't understand.  I hope that we can, one by one, or many by many, spread the word that no matter what you feel about their feelings, that domestic animals are our responsibility.  As humans we have bred them to be dependent, and so we are the ones who need to take care of them.

At the same time, I try to remember that humans, themselves, can feel up against a wall, get fired, run out of money, get sick through no fault of their own.  I feel all of us need to be ready to help them and their animals in whatever ways we can.  I think that at least some people would not dump their animals if they felt there was someone else who would help.

I have been seeing some very difficult times in my town, and the ugly side of too many people, even the ones who are in leadership positions.  Very sad.  What this is showing me is that we all can do better at communicating - at listening, at being willing to inconvenience ourselves for others, at learning how to do things differently, and at helping others understand.  Understand things like, animals depend on us.  And that caring for animals actually can make us healthier and happier, too.
