Ah, thats interesting to know. Maybe I'll keep one of the roos then - sure gotta beat feeding the little tinkers for a few weeks before knowing what gender they are!
Many thanks for the advice
The rooster can't be barred, and he can't be white for the sexlinking to work.
Thats ok, i have a black little fella. I have some other girls that show barring only on their neck / hackle feathers - would the principle remain the same for them, or would the whole bird have to be barred?
It might work. They sound like they are Delawares. They aren't extended black, so their chick down is too light for the head spot that indicates barring to show clearly. You can try it, but don't count on black sexlinks from them. They would be good for breeding red sexlinks though. Since they are white with black, they are silver. Silver hens, when crossed with a red/gold base color rooster, will produce red sexlinks. Male chicks inherit their mother's silver coloring, pullets will be gold/red.
Many thanks! I actually found a place selling white leghorns last week and i have ordered 6 four week olds. Whilst they are bound to be "commercial" leghorns it will be the first definitive breed chickens i will own - you guys are very lucky in terms of breed variety - buy some more to celebrate!
