New in Maryland

Well, unfortunately one of the chicks died overnight. It's been the smaller and weaker of the group since they got here. It had a poop stuck to its vent last night which I cleaned and dried it off. I put it in a separate box inside the brooder to keep from it being pecked but it was dead this morning. The others all seem fine and none have any pasty butt issues.

Aww I'm sorry to hear that one died. I don't have an answer for you on your question about mixing up the boxes of chicks. I am also new to this site and just wanted to pop in and say hi to a fellow Marylander (Carroll County here). Good luck with your new babies!

I'm sorry to hear that one of the chicks died. It's always sad to lose one of our flock.( Good luck with the rest of the flock.

Hello!
400

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. So sorry for your loss.

An update on my flock. The remaining chicks are doing well and growing quickly.

Today I put a mirror in the brooder and a few of the chicks were quite impressed with themselves.

That's so funny that you posted this! I was watching my daughter play with her mirror toy today and thought about placing it in with the chicks. I don't know if the chicks would have freaked out but I know sure as heck my daughter would have. So I didn't. Bet it was funny though.

Also - glad to hear your chicks are doing well!
