I'm worried about the feet of my Silkies, one hen and one rooster. The rooster looks to me to have scaly leg mites, so I have been treating him with a 15 minute epsom & warm water soak followed by rubbing in waxalene. I've done this once each week for at least 3 weeks now but I don't see any change. Also, the bottom of his feet have some pink areas that do not seem to be getting better or worse - but I'm not sure if they are swollen or if I should be concerned about the black spot. It is not a scab, more like a discoloration of the skin. What do you think?

The hen has what appears to be some flaky skin hanging off the bottom of her feet. Not sure if her pad is swollen? I've been treating her the same as the rooster just in case, and this flaky skin thing just appeared this week. Ideas?

Their feet all look quite normal to me. Heavily feather legged birds can sometimes show funky scales; real Scaly Leg Mite will be very obvious, the exuded materials found in the legs are quite nasty looking. The pink skin looks to be simple poor pigmentation, and I'd say the dry skin is probably the result of the treatments.

Thanks so much for your reply - I'm so glad to hear their feet look normal. I was so worried, especially because of the mild winter and tons of rain we've had. Guess I'm just a hypochondriac when it comes to my babies!

Just for future reference, what does the "exuded materials" look like (color, consistency, texture, etc)? In all my research on scaly leg mites the exuded materials was only mentioned once, and not described. Thanks for your time!
