My son has joined FFA and needs to raise his first animals. We got 4 turkeys and 6 chickens. I know that I can put the turkeys and chickens together, my question is, what size yard do I need for them and what size coop should they have?

I want to warn you that I raised chickens with turkeys and at sexual maturity the turkeys started fighting with the roosters and killed one before we separated them and butchered the turkeys, so be careful keeping them together. Turkeys spend more time outside so they need more run area, chickens need a bit more coop, chickens and turkeys are recommended at 4 square feet for coop area minimum, 10 square feet for run minimum, bigger is always better.

At what age is sexual maturity? I have a 3 yr old Bourbon Red tom and a 1 yr old Bronze hen. Both are very timid with the chickens. The Turkey hen stays with the chicken hens. My tom does not go near my rooster. He's very gentle with the hens & rooster (Black Copper Maran).

Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't, sexual maturity is around 6-8 months. I had a bad experience and don't want others to be shocked if it happens to them. Turkeys can be bullies, though some are gentle.
