Geese Breed Focus - American

My trio -- mom/dad and baby boy -- now my goose has begun laying eggs! I am first time goose owner and so far they are terrific addition! They are not too noisy and my neighbors don't mind when they visit.

I have been raising American Buffs for about 4 years. I just sold some eggs to a lady from NY and she just informed me that they were all fertile. I love these birds! They greet me every morning and let me know if something strange is lurking about.

Sad story, happy ending.. We have a large park across the street from us, big pond. Early one morning several weeks ago, a Canadian goose was killed in the road. It was a female with goslings apparently. My buffs adopted the goslings and were raising them. Since the pair were originally the neighbors, they still visit their house and Gracie prefers to lay eggs over there. One morning, Gracie and George showed up with goslings! I knew something wasn't right due to the black legs and the size of the goslings.

It dawned on me when the feather coloring came in! I knew the goose killed was a hen. Since these are wild gosling, I won't contain them, they are reaching maturity. Tonight, the goslings went to the pond and didn't return. George kept calling, and running everywhere. My neighbors DD wanted to coax them home, either house. I had to explain that we can't legally interfere and sent her Mom a text also. Its a private park for employees so that is trespassing too. I told both that at least the goslings survived, and will now grow up with other wild birds. I know these birds are a nuisance to many folks but they are so graceful! It was sad for me too but they deserve their freedom.

I thought I might post some pics of my offspring from the Buff goose and Lavender gander shared in the first post in this thread. I have been blessed with some of the most amazing Blue American babies from this pair.
