Black Spots on Rooster's Comb

Thread Starter
Hi there! I'm getting my first hens tomorrow (a beautiful laying flock of 8 ladies) and picked up my rooster today. But he has black spots on his comb! The woman said she thought it was frostbite, but I don't want to introduce my brand new girls to a sick rooster. Can anyone confirm this is frostbite and not pox? I have a bad feeling this is not frostbite... And should I try to find a place for him away from the hens until I can find someone to take him. I really don't want to get any hens sick. [IMG][IMG]

Hi welcome-byc.gif

Glad you could join the flock! It's not a problem posting here, many do & then pop over to the forum for their questions. Looking at your pic I'm afraid I have to agree with you that he looks to have avian pox sad.png Here is an article to check out ~ http://backyardchickens.com/a/avian-pox-how-to-treat-your-chickens-for-avian-pox

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

I think it is fowl pox also, frostbite wouldn't be spread around so much, even near his beak.  He would mainly have the tips of his comb blackened  because they are farthest from the heat source (his head)

Would the lady take him back?
