Red Fox Partially Beating Electrified Poultry Netting

I do not know. It is still hunting general area and dogs also running it off multiple times per night. My place provides exceptional hunting for a fox right now with all the small rodents and rabbits. Digging was apparently to get carcass it left inside fence a week ago. I left carcass to test fencing as doing now. Fencing is holding up. Better exclusion will be needed once I have broody hens with chicks on the ground.


As coming back from barn moments ago I saw a GHO alight in tree between me and orange dawn sky. Had seen that critter for almost two months and he likely has chicks in nest to feed already.

I would think that it did get zapped......or it would have continued and gotten carcass.
<shrugs> all speculation.
 
Evidently the juice does not go all the way to the bottom of the fence wire. If it did then the fence would ground out on the vegetation in the photo rendering the electrified poultry netting useless when combined with a fence charger, except that it forces the fox to go over, under, around, or through the wire. In the photos posted the fox chose to go under. With the purchase of some stand off insulators and slick or smooth electric fencing wire it should be easy to rig up a bottom wire running off the same charger that would stick out from the fence posts and light up Mr. Fox when he tries the same trick a second time. Either that or else the fox will have to join the United Mine Workers to be able to dig that much again.
 
People seem to think that their magical electric string zaps foxes silly and if dazes and befuddles them so bad that they leave and never come back. A fence that will make us lay down and cry is only a minor stimuli to most predators. If they find out that something good is on the inside, they will keep trying to exploit any weakness present, and many times succeed.
 
Foxes run from fence the first time like dogs but do come back and are very ginger in their approach later. Charge sufficient they do not like to get zapped again. Dogs like mine very strongly motivated with risk additional shocks to get at something.

Juice goes all the way down and fencing as a general rule have lots of shorts but not dead shorts. I can get by with a wimpy 0.1 Joule charger with standard hotwire that is free and clear of weeds but with the electrified poultry netting I want a minimum of 0.5 Joules per 164' stretch and prefer to use a 2 Joule unit when running to stretches and an outer perimeter of hotwire as that keeps up hot even when weeds wet or snow gets a little depth on it.. Shortly I will be setting up a solar charged perimeter specifically for barn that will be inside existing perimeters. I have never run charger so close together and have not been able to find any recommendations on that.
