I have a Swedish Hen and a Crested Drake. She started laying in late January/ early February. She had 18 eggs on her nest but just would not sit at all. My last duck i had laid 10 and sit just fine. I figured 18 was a little exessive. My chickens deicded since she wasnt going to sit on them they would. So i have 2 hens now sitting on 18 eggs. I am not quite sure what to do. This is her first year to lay. She is about 7 to 8 months old if that makes any kind of difference.

18 eggs is a bit much. Try taking some eggs off, a typical clutch size is about 8-12 eggs. For a duck her size I'd say leave the 10 newest eggs. It could also be that she just isn't broody anymore. I had a duck that went broody once, she only had 5 eggs and she quit sitting on them on day five. Sometimes they just aren't ready. If taking some away doesn't work I'd recomend putting false eggs (like golf balls or wooden eggs) in the nest to encourage her to go broody again. Do this after you remove the eggs she abandoned of course.

I have golf balls in my nests i use for my chickens. She hasnt been broody at all. I was hoping when she gor up to 10 she would sit. I guess maybe ahe just iant ready. My chickens are sitting on her current eggs. I will see if she has picked a new spot and keep whatever eggs she lays there.
