Chicken age and laying

Well I have officially had the ladies for two weeks and have yet to see an egg. I did just read that their combs should be fire engine red. I have one that does have that. Another one with barely any comb (think she is only 5 or 6 months) and last has a very faded looking comb. I also just fed them some rice with cayenne pepper yesterday and this morning. Heard that can help move things along. Any thoughts on moving laying along or their age?

Only one photo showed up, in the one it looks like the one hen should start laying in the next week or two, the other one hasn't started to redden yet. This time a year I would expect her to start within the next 4-6 weeks. They appear to be about 2, possibly 3 years old.

To encourage laying make sure to feed a good quality ration, I personally prefer an all flock ration for the higher protein, especially if you add extras, always keep a dish of oyster shells available. Keeping stress down will help too.

Whenever birds are moved to a new home, the change in environment sets them back a bit as far as laying goes. The hen in the middle of your picture looks as if she will be laying shortly. As the day length continues to increase, the others will join her in laying.
 
Thanks Sourland! That's my hope. Does the pale comb on the one say anything about her age. Was told about a year old, but not sure. Thanks again!
 
To me they look like mature hens that are just taking a normal winter break in egg production. Exact age on mature birds can be hard to tell.
