The Mix and Matches Breeding Project Thread

Wondering if I got this right:
Silver laced polish x wcb polish= all black?
Silver laced polish x white polish= white with black leakage (dominant white or, who knows (recessive white)?
White polish plus wcb= who knows or?
I plan on keeping all colors purebred, but wouldn't mind trying for a "hidden color" underneath white. All black would be ok, or black with pretty leakage.

Black cochin plus red or white cochin=all black?
White plus red cochin= buff or "hidden color?"

Silkie roo with polish or cochin= females only with dark skin? And if silkie is the hen?

Wondering:
If you cross a polish with a cochin, what percent chance is there of offspring getting a V-comb? Or is it a hybrid between a v and a single comb? I'm not sure I want to even try, just curious.

I'm wondering because I only have 5 of each, and some may be all roosters or all hens. I specifically got white because I figured I could get more colors by producing the "hidden color."

Basically I'm looking for what combos to definitely avoid. I don't want ugly combs or ugly feathering (always a chance I know, but some have higher percentage). I don't care about legs, skin color, number of toes, or any of that. I favor some sort of crest, pretty feather patterns of any sort as long as they make sense and not just random splotch here and there, and I favor V combs or small combs hidden by crest.

(Could be ugliest chicken in world and if the personality is great I'll love it anyway, just wondering). I like the cochins the best as far as personality.

As of now I have 10 wcb polish, 5 white polish, 5 silver laced polish, 3 black cochin, 1 red cochin, 1 white cochin, 5 white silkies. No idea of sex on any of them yet, and will have to give away excess roosters probably.

UPDATE
I've been away for a while but my project has gone better than expected for so short of a time invested in it. Because of my limited space and number of chickens I may have not got my parents correct...But, I can guess.
Out of a standard cochin barred male and sultan hen I got a lavender barred (dirty white) hen with sultan characteristics. Using her with a sultan rooster I got this pretty guy

He's throwing chicks like this

Some of these are from a pure sultan rooster, some may yet be by a cochin rooster and some are by Raider, the colored sultan rooster. I also have some splashed hens who are laying and could be mothers to some of these chicks.

Raider and the splashed hens and one white hen from their clutch mates that I kept developed massive poofs. I had to trim the feathers of each and every one of them. That was unexpected. I was sure I would have small poofs the first few generations. And as you can see on some of the young colored chicks, they are being born with skull vaults (and some without). I have also increased the size of them dramatically. Raider is almost twice the size of his white sultan flock mate rooster. The 3 hens/pullets I kept from that lot grew to be a lot larger than their mothers. I should add the mother of the splash hens is most likely a brahma mix. She is black/blue(?) and her sister who aslo may have contributed was lavender speckled. She could have possibly been Raiders mother.

Or Raiders mother could have been this girls sister
meanB.jpg

She is a lightly splashed cochin sultan mix. Her sister/clutch mate was lavender barred but same body, slightly larger than MeanB here.

I'm thrilled with the way the project is going. When I thin out my flock of youngsters I hope to coop Raider up with the splash hens in one coop and my pure whites up in their own coop. The colored sultans will lay pale brownish pink eggs white the white ones will carry on laying white.

Chickens used in the project are Brahma mixed with Swedish flower (this is where I suspect the lavender gene came from), Standard cochins and Sultans. I have ordered some Orloffs and salmon Faverolles and may use these in the future.

I'm not too concerned with interbreeding at this time. I started my flock with birds from 3 or 4 sources and then added non sultans to them several times. The sultan hens who are possible mothers to the original colored roo or splashed hens do lay a LOT of eggs and have even brooded and raised their chicks. Not as well as a cochin may have, but they gave it a good try and did well at it for a few weeks. These were traits I hoped to get.
1. Size of birds
2. Colors of birds
3. Amount of eggs (and hopefully larger)
4. Broodiness

How is everyone else's projects going?

I’ve been thinking of mixing my spangled OEGB hen with my cream sebright rooster to see what colors and patterns may come out of them. Has anyone else tried this before? Do they have pics of the offspring?
