Newly hatched, do I cut it? Pic

Chick hatched overnight, still attached to the egg, do I cut it free? Its hard to tell in the picture but the string looked dry-ish.

if it is still attached and the shell is dry just break the egg around the chicks foot so that the only part sticking to the chick is a little piece of shell.

or do you mean the chicken equivalent of an umbilical cord because if that is the case then leave it, when I first read this I thought you were talking about it being stuck to the shell.

It's the chick equivilant of a cord, he's dragging around half of the shell still, should I make the shell smaller? Should I just move him to a box alone with a friend and a light until it falls off? I didn't think cutting was a great idea, but I'm lacking coffee and my brain couldn't get creative!

break off the main part of the shell leaving the bit that is attached to the cord, it will fall off when it is ready.

Thanks for your help! I just got up and carefully broke all around leaving a small piece. Then he kicked out his leg an I realized it was just goo that got stuck to his leg...whoops! Freed him and am entirely less concerned lol.png
