New babies to raise always get me ridiculously giddy

. I brought home 6 mixed pullets and 2 ducklings last night and my hubby just shook his head, as if the birds I already have should be enough. Ha! Well two of the last bunch of chicks ended up being roosters, that I really want to keep. So if I'm keeping three roosters around, I need more hens, right? He thinks we should just eat the roosters. Anyways....just wanted to share a quick pic of the newbs getting settled for their first night. Had to do the pic in b&w because the red lamp threw the coloring all off anyways. I'll try to get some more individual pics up later to start the breed guessing game. I picked 2 that looked similar to my Delaware chicks, 2 most likely Barred Rocks, and 2 EE's.

I'm starting to second guess my initial thoughts on what breeds they are. All are just starting to get their little feathers, they grow so fast!!

These two are similar to the EEs I ended up with in my last batch, but they don't have the really puffy cheeks.

This one might be a Buff...

This one I am hoping will turn out white, not sure though, there is some buff and grey coloring on the head.

And these ones...really dark black with some yellow on the chest. One has more yellow than the other, and the one with less yellow on the chest also has yellow spots on the wings.

I'm digging the mustache.

oh I love your barred rock girls!♡♡♡♡I'm in love!! can't wait till my 7 Barred Rock girls get here and my 1 suprise breed chick!!!Yours are so cute!!

So...my young'uns are a week old now and getting their feathers in. I still am unsure what at least four of them are.
This one has been dubbed Angel. She always seems to be watching over the others whenever they are all passed out.

Angel on the right.

I may be wrong, but all the barred rock ckicks that I've seen so far have had a yellow dot on the top of their heads. Is it possible that you might have sex-links?

One does have the typical yellow spot, but the other black one is a lot darker, with no yellow spot on the head. The darker one has yellow lower down on the belly and a spot on each wing.

I just was reading about barred Rocks because I'm getting 7 in April. I read the ones with yellow spots on their heads are male, the ones with white spots are females. first time I've heard that. I also read males are lighter and females have Darker legs.

I have one that is supposed to be a pullet--no roo characteristics yet anyway. She was subbed in for a BA as they apparently had a bad hatch. They were under the red light when they were still downy, so now I'm wondering if her dot was yellow or white...
