Incubator Questions - It's My First Time

Thread Starter

I have 4 Saxony females laying eggs daily and would like to incubate about 12 of there eggs. I have never done this before and would like some advise on which kind of incubator to get. Still Air or Circulated Air? How often do the eggs need turned? I would like to turn them myself instead of buying a automatic turner if possible.

I was told by someone that opening the incubator to turn the eggs myself would completely throw off the temp and humidity. I assume opening would make the heat fluctuate slightly for a few minutes while I turn, but would it be enough to do damage? Being that I am new to this, I do not want to invest a lot of money into an incubator just yet.

I would appreciate any advice you can give.

Thank You

Hi, I am not a hatcher, but there are a bunch of them.  A short list, not at all complete, with apologies for those I have missed.

and recently I saw someone advise to have at least one, preferably two backups for checking temperature and humidity, and these can make a life or death difference in a hatch, and sometimes the incubators' equipment does not give an accurate enough reading.
