Just bought a house with 7 acres and getting prepared for chickens. Genesee county and Shiawasee county borders. Would love some chicken friends.

If you'd like to 'meet' others in your area, check out your state thread:

And if you haven't already done so, take a look at some of the great articles in the Learning Center...they can help get you off on the right foot.

What breed of chickens are you planning on getting? There are so many to choose from, part of what makes keeping chickens fun.

Thanks for joining us!

The Michigan state folks are very nice. They could tell you what breeds do best in your climate, type of coop etc. Welcome to BYC, with that many acres you could have your own zoo.

We have 3 dogs a cat and 5 kids currently living here (we were a family of 11 until 2015) if I suggest anymore than a few outdoor animals my husband will never leave the pole barn or work.

Hi and welcome to BYC. It seems like the world is your oyster with so much space. Heck, I'd go bonkers and get as many varieties as i could with that much space! Some BYC members have hobbies other than chickens (dunno why

) so I'd suggest searching for topics that interest you - anything from keeping fish, quilting, baking, keeping goats - the list goes on!

Good luck with your farm

All the best
