Yesterday, I checked my ganders feet and I noticed that on both feet in the same spot he had calluses, with yellowish-black centers. He isn't limping at all, and seems totally healthy. I think it is the beginning stages of bumblefoot, but I'm not sure. Could it just be a callus, or is it infected? One of them is slightly swollen, but the other is almost normal size. What should I do? He is a 8 month old African goose (not the dewlap show quality, but African/Chinese mix.)

I think I would soak and get that scab off, pack with a non "caine" antibiotic ointment and wrap. repeat the soaking at least 1x a day. If there is a hot feeling, or swelling starts then I would look at antibiotics, and if necessary surgery. I have soaked a rooster in the bathtub before, lol.
Soak him in warm water? When I take the scabs off, do I need to get the kernel and pus out? Also, how do I wrap a goose foot? It's a lot easier to soak waterfowl than chickens I bet!

Quote: Yes, you want that kernel out, and as little swelling as there is, hopefully its a a very minor infection and little pus. I think the warm water will be of more help, the epsom salt will dissolve better. It also helps muscle to relax, and hopefully will drain better. The wrapping stays best if you crisscross between foot and ankle to form good coverage, you may have to band aid the toe to make sure its protected. main thing is keep it thick with antibiotic ointment between soaks.

@NathanZee Here is a good thread on treatment that can keep from having to cut. Soaking his feet in warm Epsom salt water will help bring the bumble to a head and the clear iodine will also help so use both and they can be found at any pharmacy or Walmart ask for them if you can't find it. If I have to soak my water fowls feet I use a bucket put in the nice warm water and epsom salt then mix well put goose down into the bucket feet first hold onto him so he stays , do this a couple of days with the clear iodine then check scabs they may come off easily by then, I wouldn't wrap till the scabs are off. He looks like they aren't too bad so you have caught them at a good time.If you give the scabs time to dry and loosen on their own there will be less bleeding. I wait till i can gently pull the scab with my finger nail.

Thank you both! But now I'm kind of torn what to do, cut or not cut? I'll read the thread. He definitely has no need for a laxative, he does plenty on his own!

Cutting should be a last resort give the Epsom salt and clear iodine time to work since his doesn't look that bad. Keep him off of rough surfaces. Nope they sure don't need laxatives.

Okay, I'll do that then. Does Morton Iodized Sea Salt work? It says it has iodine in it. Wood chips aren't bad for his feet are they? And is it okay to take him on walks over normal lawn grass? He would get really sad if he was left out I think, but I'll do what's best for him.
