Will Cots go inside at night?

I'm tossing the idea around of building an outside pen for my Coturnix birds for the summer that connects to their cages in a shed.  Will the birds have enough sense to go inside their cages at night?  I was thinking of having a plank to a door maybe 12" X 12" that leads inside to their cages.

All of my large group cages have indoor/outdoor access. It doesn't matter what the weather is like, they only go inside to lay eggs. Otherwise, they stay outside all night long.

Goats, ducks, chickens, quail, turkeys, pheasants and the neighbor's cat that's always hanging around!
