Lets start by saying Yes i am sasquatch and i too own chickens.
Now we broke the air. Lets move on.
Im going to share my incubation exp with each of you
Im useing the lg still air. First i must say. Throwing this in the lake has crossed
My mind several times. But that would not work. Why? Im glad you asked. It would float
Back. So. Iv been having bad hatch rates in it. About 95% death rate.
Thats got to change. Ok. So im running a test. 42 eggs no humidity for the first 17 days.
Iv placed rice in the water chambers. Placed 2 aqua therm in. THE HEAT IS ON.
Good song might i add...For the last week iv been chaseing the temp.
Thought i had it. Added the aqua therms. Back to the chase. Ill get it.

Well Sasquatch, have you calibrated all of your instruments before each hatch? Incorrect readings on thermometers and hygrometers seems to be the most common cause of failure around here. I have 2 LGs (a 9300 and a 9200, both still air) and manage decent hatches in them. I do admit, I've not been pleased with the newer 9300, but its doing an okay job, but neither model is "set it and forget it". Chucking them into the river or a sink hole has crossed my mind on several occasions as well....theres a thread somewhere in this section of the forum call LG incubator tips and tricks (or something like that and if you haven't already found it). It might be a good place to do some reading and maybe troubleshoot the problems you're having with yours :)

This is my 2 year with this bator. Andiv read every thing i can. Actualy im on batch 2. First batch was 30 eggs with 6 survivers. I trusted the temp for no reason at all. Used spunge to help humidity. Over did that. Because of one sucessful hatch i had of 75% good. Never got those results again. But yes bator was primed and ready. But once i added the eggs. All changed. Yup iv been reading and appling ...

So iv decided to turn my lid every day to counter flopped temp. And no the lg is not a set forget incubator.
People don't let the lg ruin you. Let it learn you. Lol. This will be my last time to use this incubator. After reading all I can in these forms for the last few months and year. Lg gets bad reviews 98%. Granted people do like them. I how ever am ready to move on to bigger better incubators. There is no reason II can't build that. 21 days from egg to bird is a wonderful thing to watch. And chicken TV. Is well worth. Sasquatch out
 
What kind of thermometer are you using to track temp? I switched from an Accurite to a Brinsea Spotcheck and couldn't believe the difference it made in my hatch rates! I also use a couple of glass medical thermometers.

I've been using my 9200 for almost 10 years now, I have better luck with it then the new 9300 I purchased last year. I also rotate the top on the 9200 to make up for temp variances. Thats impossible with the 9300 because of the molded handles and the dumb temp probe they added. I liked the design of the 9300, the top fits much better, but they should've kept the bigger metal heating element thats on the 9200. I've been thinking about creating a "Franken-Bator" out of them, but I think (like you) I'd probably just be better off making or purchasing a new one altogether!
 
See I don't go in the store that often. Because I am sasquatch. People photo bomb me all the time. Or try to kill me.
I'm on my last therm I'm gonna buy. Been threw 3 so far. My next $$ move is in building my next bator. I figure instead of paying to get this one just right. I can build what I want and need for way less. This lg is child's play asking for trump money. Lol
 
Lol, I don't go to the store much either (though I'm pretty sure I'm not a sasquatch, at least the last time I checked anyway....). But, I do like to order supplies off Ebay and other internet retailers. You obviously have internet access, so....

I hear ya. Those Spotcheck thermometers were the last big purchase I was going to make in hopes of getting even a semi decent hatch rate out of my LGs. And they did help. Even if you do decide to build or buy a new, they're a good investment. I like that they register temp changes in the 'bator as they're happening and not after the fact. I'm thinking I might get myself a Havabotor Genesis and use the LGs as hatchers.

I hope you'll document your build. I always enjoy seeing peoples, errrr, and sasquatch homemade incubators :)

I plan on a step by step update on the bator build. I found a real easy cabinet build. And one don't need to be a rocket builder. Its simple forced air 2 220 heat lamps a stat\humi. A 2 fans and a PVC turner rack. Cabinet is plywood and inslaited foam Simple. I'll order my stat off ebay. What I leave out I'll share with those who ask.

OK I'm on lock down day 1. Added water 24 hours ago. Removed turner. Replaced with paper egg crate. Hatch date is 19th in 4 days. Iv had 4 of 32 eggs already hatch. Several more hatching now. Early hatch. Need I remind you. I had no water in the incubator for the first 16 days. Kept temp at 101 in that range. Had a pip on day 16. I'm in shock. I must say the method I used has been way different than my first 2 years of using this incubator. When last egg popps I'll finish my review. With detail. Sasquatch out
