Non medicated game bird feed is not available in my country & importing is very costly. I have been feeding medicated chicken feed 16% protein + BSF larvae so far & my quails are still doing well. Why everybody say feed non medicated food? Will this medicated food reduce the lifespan of birds?

Medicated feed is okay. Though, studies have shown that constantly feeding a medicated feed will allow them to build a resistance and be able to become infected with coccidiosis. A separate study also showed that some males that were only fed medicated feed became sterile. It is still recommended to stop feeding medicated feed at least one week prior to butchering if they are being raised for meat.

A lot of folks have issue with medicated or GMO feed. Loud opinion but no real experience.... Others offer advice after spending time researching on the internet.... I myself have and I know several other breeders who have fed only medicated feed for years. Several generations of Georgia Giants and coturnix later no issues at all, still fertile, still healthy.....

Thanks for your reply, I raise them mainly for Eggs. If its affecting the males and making them sterile I feel really bad... Don't know of any alternative food source. :( I've learn adding some apple cider Vinegar to drinking water can control Coccidiosis up to certain level. Will this work if i continue giving medicated feed? What is the medicine put in the feeds anyway? What is it for? Is it for growth or for health?

Thanks for sharing your experience Fat daddy, Can this medicines/chemicals enter into their eggs? I'm feeding those eggs to my 9 months old baby as well...

Most medicated feeds have amprollium added which will not treat, but will help chicks to fight off coccidiosis. It is strictly a health concern and not for growth.

It's been forever since I read about the study involving sterility so I can't give more details. I can say though that after reading it I wasn't too concerned and I myself have fed medicated feed at times and can't report any issues.

Fat Daddy is right about people with their opinions, though and I think that 99% of the 'feed non-medicated feed' comes from that.
