Hello from the Dogwood City, Palestine, Tx

I'm not new to chickens but I am now retired and can spend more time doing the things I love and raising chickens is one of them.  We also have a bee yard and sell honey.  We have three yellow labs and an older horse that is just a pet at this time of her life.

I really enjoy reading about all the amazing things in Back Yard Chickens.  I just made a homemade incubator and will be putting eggs in it today.  I've had it running for about 4 or 5 days trying out the humidity and temperature settings.  I started with an old computer fan that was too small so I ordered one on amazon and got and installed it yesterday.  It BLOWS some air.   For the box, I used two old kitchen drawers.  One was deep and the other shallow.  I hinged them together and put wire in it as a floor raised 2 inches up so that an aluminum pan would fit under it for water.  Installed a water heater temperature gauge in it and off we go.  I found those instructions here on this site in case any one wants to build one.

Everyone, keep up the good work and enjoy your chickens and may all your egg-sptations be great!

Hi welcome-byc.gif Martha

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your incubator clap.gif I'm sure you are going to enjoy incubating very much. It's very addictive and something I enjoy very much too. I hope you have great hatches with yours. What breed/s are you going to incubate? I'm hoping to be getting mine out soon to get started for the spring.

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC frow.gif

There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around the run. Good luck with your future hatch.
Did a moth know that the flame was going to change her life forever, or did she simply fly towards that heated embrace, knowing it would offer her something she couldn't give herself? In the end, the answer didn't really matter. The moth had never wanted the choice. -Joey W. Hill-

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele
