A few mystery chicks

Well our little black guy didn't make it. I babied it all day yesterday. Put him back in the brooder last night because I had nowhere else warm enough to keep him. This morning, gone. :(

So sorry to hear that your chick didn't make it! Don't blame yourself. Sometimes they just aren't strong enough and there's nothing that can be done to help them. I hope the others continue to grow and thrive! :)

Yeah, I feel bad. Because while it was not one I meant to purchase and I didn't even have a clue as to what breed it was, I got attached to it trying to nurse it back to health. Though when I bought them I was given a freebie that I wasn't charged for and I think that was the one.

Also, the grey/orange chicks in the third picture look like they have a single comb, it's a little straight line. So I have ruled out buff brahma. If they are Mille Fleur D'Uccles I got a good deal at $2.99 each. I've seen people selling straight run D'uccle chicks for $8 each around here. Once they are big enough for me to tell if that's what they are, I may have to sell or rehome them. From what I hear the D'Uccles would be able to fly right over my fence. It's a chore enough dealing with my muscovy hens doing it and worrying a neighborhood dog will get them. Unless I build an enclosure just for them so they can't fly out.
