Quail eggs pipping - Page 2

I have 5 babies hatched out now. The first egg that pipped the chick died inside. I have 6 eggs left that have not yet pipped. Can they go a few days before making an appearance?

They are super cute love.gif Sorry to hear you lost your first pipped.

They could be a little later than the others, has anything else pipped in your remaining 6 yet? They all don't pip at the same time. Would be so much easier if they did!! Have you had an even temp around your incubator? Still air or fan? Cooler spots could cause a slight delay in hatch.

None pipped yet. It is fan assisted. I measured a few spots before setting eggs and it was fairly even.

Still no pipping or movement. It's 24 hours since the first ones pipped

At 24 hours I would get your hatched quail into the brooder and get them eating & drinking. While doing this give the remaining eggs a candle and see if you can see any movement or internal pips.

I had trouble candling the eggs as they're mottled. I will leave them in tonight and see if there are any signs in the morning. I didn't candle them from the start so they could potentially be infertile. However I did see 1 rock slightly

Ok I just took the eggs out and cracked them. All infertile no growth atall. I am pretty pleased with my homemade incubator. 5 eggs hatched out of 6 fertile ones. I'm going to order another dozen and set them I think.

If they had no development and you have had 5/6 hatch I would say your incubator is working great thumbsup.gif

Ordering more straight away is pointing to incubating addiction gig.gif

Hope your hatched ones are doing well and good luck with your next set of eggs fl.gif
