I had some splash marans eggs shipped and after large air cells (still trying to figure out why since it was only some of them) saddle shaped air cells I was very happy to wake up to a chirping baby one day early (and another pipped egg!). Being the meddler I am I opened the lid to look at the other eggs and that darn little chick actively sought out my hand! I've never had that happen before! But i admit it was endearing, especially since last weeks hatch of "barnyard mix" yielded babies who can't even find the heat source (I use a heating pad "cave", and since the heating pad only takes up the back half I've had to" lock" them in it at night because I've had to revive three chicks and lost one because they won't stay in) and one in particular who stands around like it's in a daze. Anyway, are marans naturally just friendly?
