I would love a opinion on this. I've just took on 3 9 day old chicks. I have a home made brooder with a red 100w heat bulb in there. The chicks so far are laid under there sleeping. I woke them up, they ate a bit of food then went back to the heat spot to sleep. It's now at 30°c in there. Is this warm enough or two warm? I'm new to this... had them 3 hour!!

At 9 days old they should be fine with that temp. Just observe them. They will typically go to sleep under the heat source then be up and around all over the place. Cold chicks will pile close to each other and on top of each other and peep very loudly. Make sure their brooder is large enough to get away from the heat source as well. Rest of the brooder should be cooler.

If they chicks are too hot, they will try to get farther away from the lamp, and will not lay close to each other. That's why people usually have the lamp cover just part of the brooder, so the chicks can determine where they are most comfortable.
 
Hi. The heat is in one corner of the brooder. They have a 110 litre plastic so rage box. I think they were just getting used to the change when I posted due to them only having a small box and standard 60w light bulb before. They're running around digging, eating and drinking now. They're so cute

Glad you could join the flock! Your chicks sound like they are settling in well :D What breed are they? I'm hoping to get the incubator out this week so I should have some new chicks in about 4 weeks. I see your in the UK, please do drop the UK thread, the link is in my signature. I have no idea what they are. They're eggs hatched at my daughter's school. We brought them home. Her teachers had no idea either :/
 
The farmer asked for the males back (yellow ones) and rehome female to the community. Cocks can't live in built up places. So we have 3 brown females :)
