Hello fellow BYC members! My name is Nykki!
I am new to raising chicks although I have had chickens back when as a child. I cannot wait to finally recieve my shipment of chicks! I purchased Silver laced, golden laced, red laced, and Columbian Wyandotte's and Rhode Island Reds from Cackle Hatchery on Efowl.com of course I had to buy 25 but Im only keeping 5......maybe! Lol Im sure I will be able to sell most of them if not all the extras.

My brooder is a puppy pen and all set up. Just waiting for my chicks!

I have a small coop that will be fully enclosed by the time the chickens are ready to go outside.

Hi Nykki and welcome to BYC - great to have you onboard! Looks like you are all set to go with your new flock which must be very exciting for you. If you have not done so already, you may wish to check out the Learning Centre as it contains lots of very useful articles, reviews and threads. Your state thread (just type your state in the search box) is also a good place to meet up with other BYC members local to you.

That brooder doesn't look safe to me. Not large enough and if it is made of that mesh, it is prone to catching fire. Chicks are also likely to get beak or toes caught in the mesh.
But fire would be my main concern.. especially is the lamp touches any of it. Also it needs solid sides to protect from drafts. and household pets.
