Buff Orpingtons hatched on 1/31/2016. I read that female chickens get their wig and tail feathers first. I have 8 Buff Orpingtons chicks. 4 of them are all feathered out but are a little bigger than the others. The feathered ones also have comes that are turning pink. I want to put leg bands on the males so I can start noticing the ones that give the most attention to the hens, so that I can pick a good rooster. Can someone tell me the male in the photos? The feathered one is my favorite out of the bunch because he always runs right to me.

Than you

The first three pictures look to be a rooster, a few more weeks you should know for sure. The friendly rooster chicks often end up aggressive. I like the ones that run the other way.

Thank you. I thought they were male because they are more aggressive. The female chickens feathering first is just for some breeds? Please excuse my spelling wings and combs.

Thank you.

Every breed is different and even individuals in a breed are different. I mostly look for the tell tale sign of a pink comb, the girls combs will remain orange for a couple of months, the boys will get pink in the first month or two. That along with feathering and attitude I can usually pick out my roosters fairly early.
