Nearly 2 year old RIR. It feels like 5 lbs or more.
She has ascarids. I thought the birds might have increased risk due to the snowy and wet weather, recently. A fecal test found them in another bird. I gave them some garlic water, which often makes them pass some small worms, if they are having trouble, which she did, in a muddy dropping. I think there was a dead one, and the next was moving. One dropping was also watery. Others look like bits put together. I can't find any blood.
But she also started leaving something in her crop in the morning. It feels like whole corn kernels, which were in their reach. (I've tried to remove most of them, now, though. A couple other birds may have had a bit in their crops as well, but no longer do. I've seen them eat them before without problem, but I suppose it's important to keep them only on softer food if they have worms.) She still has a good appetite and I try to give her easy to digest food, but she still leaves these kernels in her crop. They may be too big to try to vomit? The first morning, I did vomit out maybe a couple mL of liquid, but she and a couple others were already up enough to meet me at the door, so she could have taken a drink before that. It had a little smell of some kind, and darkish color, but no solids that I saw. (I have an extra water container for them, which someone had muddied by scratching, probably. I had just filled it late the previous night.) The crop sags a bit, sometimes, but sometimes massaging helps it pick up. I made her a light fabric crop supporter to help hold it up for now.
She is not on garlic water, anymore. I was thinking of giving her Wazine, but I have two concerns: I'm wondering if the garlic water made worms bunch up in her, somewhere. If they are bunched up, would it be easier for her to deal with them if they were dead? I want to reduce the chances of an impaction, if possible. Any advice to prevent that, or in case that happens?
She doesn't seem to want to drink much. I don't know if that is because I've been giving her moist things. (Few of them seem to be interested in water in the morning, but they do eventually drink.) She doesn't seem to be dehydrated, but I tubed her around 5 ccs of fluid just to help keep her crop rinsed. I moved the crop a little and then pulled up a tiny bit of fluid in the end of the tube. I don't think it smelled bad. I might need to tube her the Wazine to make sure she gets dosed. How much should I give? Also, how should I clean the tube, afterwards? Is dish soap enough?
She is also in the middle of lice treatment with permethrin, though she's been dust bathing so I have trouble finding them, though I'm sure she still has eggs on her.
I have a place in the house for her to sleep, but she tries to get out to the coop at bedtime, so I let her. I also let her outside in a patch of small weeds where she doesn't get long pieces, but can get grit and see her friends. She likes scrambled egg. She also likes oatmeal, but I don't know if that counts as a whole grain to avoid.
