While we were at our local TSC this morning, I saw the chicken heating mat things that were $50 on sale for $30 and then marked at 50% off that, so I picked one up.
I just happened to pick up 2 chicks last night at TSC as well (another guy was there buying and he only wanted 4, so we split the 6 chick min and both got what we wanted).
I have a light on them now and a heating pad behind me and now this chick mat. Trying to get either to where I can put it in their real brooder with temp that isn't too warm or too cold.
The chicken mat would be idea, hard surface, so can be cleaned easily. But the heat is coming from the bottom - does it matter? Has anybody used the chicken heat mat for brooding?
