What kind of babies do I have?

Well from a few articles i've read...Ameraucanas are not Eastern Eggers. A pure breed Ameraucana lays Olive eggs. A non pure breed lays different shades of blue and can be considered an Easter Egger. Easter Eggers are any mixed breed that lays shades of blue eggs.

I have an Ameraucana. My wife was hoping for blue eggs. I wanted olive so I could say "I'm eating green eggs and ham." She laid Olive eggs.

But I'm no expert

Yeah, if you want a pure bred Ameraucana, you go to a breeder. They lay blue eggs...or at least the ones I know about do. Large hatcheries will not have pure bred Ameraucanas, you're getting an Easter Egger even if they don't market them as such. Olive Eggers are the "breed" that lays the green eggs--they are crosses between dark brown egg layers and blue egg layers. I'll be getting chicks from all three groups in the next few months, so I paid fairly close attention to the differences.

I don't really care what breed I get. Just would like to know so when people ask I can tell them. The blue or green eggs will just be a bonus! Plus, I would like to look up pictures to see what my chicks will look like when they're grown.

can you have males where you live? if not I'm sure TSC will allow you to return the "straight run" batch for "pullets or females. If they know you didn't quite understand what Straight Run meant I'm sure they will help you out. If your looking for egg layers and not crowers i might consider replacement with pullets. Even in the pullet bin or anywhere else birds are sexed a male can sneek in every now and then but it's a LOT LESS likely than straight run where you will SURELY get some males. I do hope this helps you out.

I live in the country, so we can have anything. I was just thinking that if we got too many boys, I would just raise them up and eat them. (Sorry if that freaks people out.)
