Silkie's and Mareks

Thread Starter

Hi all.  My husband and I are getting silkies in a few months.  We live in Los Angeles. The hatchery will not be giving mareks vaccines because they say the silkies are too small for the vaccine at 1 day old.  So what's the best way and best age to vaccinate them after they arrive?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know the answer for you but,  you could post on any of the Marek's threads and see what the response.is.  Also post on  the 'Silkie thread," Just put in the search box, it should take you there.

Some folks think the vaccine may result in a milder case of Mareks if exposed  but, will not prevent  it.

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

Drumstick diva has pointed you in the right direction to find your answer (I don't know either). The Search feature is in the upper left under the logo. While you're looking around the site, check out the Learning Center for all sorts of good articles on caring for chickens.

Hope you enjoy those silkies!

wee.gif Ya gotta love the Silkies!!!!
Did a moth know that the flame was going to change her life forever, or did she simply fly towards that heated embrace, knowing it would offer her something she couldn't give herself? In the end, the answer didn't really matter. The moth had never wanted the choice. -Joey W. Hill-
