What are you feeding compared to what she is feeding? My guess is she's giving them a better diet.
What breeds are they? Are the ones you kept and the ones that you gave away the same? Each breed tends to lay best that first and second year so it is normal for them to slack off that third year. It could be that the ones you have are more laid out than the others were.
As was mentioned already, diet can play a big role on the number of eggs you are getting as well.
