Hi!! I have been assigned a project and with that I have to raise an animal. I decided to do chickens and am planning on getting 4 Golden Comets. I have a large area for the chickens which I need to fence off but apart from that I am unsure of how to make a coop. I have lots of spare wood around the house which I will hopefully be able to use. I have made some designs and a model of the yard area. Does anyone have some useful tips on building a coop or anything that I will need to raise the chickens? Thank you!

Here are the designs the first 2 are the coop design ideas and the last is the yard) :

Go to the top of the page and find the "coops" link. Look through there for some ideas. You will want at least 4 square feet per bird for the coop and 10 square foot per bird for the run. More is better. It's hard to tell the dimensions of your drawing but if your coop is only going to be large enough for four birds you would only need one or two nest boxes. I would make the coop a little more square, having more area for the birds and less square footage for nest boxes. I am a newbie so the pros will chime in sometime soon.

Cool, thanks! The run is pretty big. It was originally a veggie patch and is approximately 20 meters square. I wasn't very sure on the coop but this will help me a lot, thank you.
