Good morning. I had a new baby silkie hatch this morning and one of her little legs is jutting straight out from her body to the side. She keeps her little wings out, I think this helps her move around. I'm thinking it is a splayed leg? Wondering if it could be broken though, as this could happen with the mother moving around. I was thinking I should take her in the house, I can set up a brooder, have a heat lamp and everything. And then make a splint for the leg. Just not knowing which way to go with it but I want to help the baby

I'm going to post a leg pic today when he wakes up. I have the little guy under my heat lamp and have done a splint with a rubber band and piece of a straw. He is cuddled up sleeping next to a fuzzy teddy bear I put in his box

You may not realize that you are posting in the BYC Peafowl Forum.
A good place to post with chicken health issues/questions is the Emergencies/Diseases Forum:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures
Or you might also get good advice in the Raising Chicken Chicks Forum:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/11/raising-baby-chicks

Of course, many of our peapeople are also chicken people so you may get some good advice here, too!

Well, there must have been something wrong with my poor baby. She got more and more weak throughout the day and passed away 20 minutes ago. So sad but we did try everything to help her. Her little legs were quite deformed, one was shorter than the other and would not unbend. I know some things are for the best, just sad.
