         I am thinking of you and your family...it sounds like your daughter is doing okay - I will keep an eye on how you do....
My older brother had Guillan Barre years ago. I wont go into details. He married a woman who also had it at young age with no permanent effects from it (they shared tracheotomy scars though)...

I have known a number of other people who have had mild cases of Guillan Barre with no permanent damage and made full come back from the paralysis, especially when stricken while young.  I hope your daughter does well, you are there with her and supporting her, she should do good!

Take care of yourself also during this time - it wont help your daughter if you let yourself get worn out while she is going through this.  (It happened to my mother during my brothers illness)

Im sorry for your familys trouble, and your daughters pain.  I sincerely hope her recovery goes very well.

I'm going to say something here though... not to start a fight or trouble or to criticise anyone, or make problems for anyone.  Certainly if you dont wish the flu shot dont get it, but as a retired AF person I got the flu shot for over 20 years like clockwork and now that I'm out, I continue to get it, because I saw how much it helped, and my whole family including my 90 year old WWII vet father gets it as well. 

There are many people who really SHOULD get it, and for whom it is very dangerous NOT to get it. 

The flu shot is NOT some experiment or guinea pig sort of thing, its a well established program, and not to diminish anyones problems with it, it is a killed virus, not likely to do more than cause itching at the shot sight.  Over the course of my 20+ years in the military, Ive heard lots of people claim the shot made them sick, but also observed that they were coughing and sneezing or sick days before they ever got the shot, which told me otherwise.  *shrugs* not going to argue with anyone here, just want to speak my piece and move on.

Sorry, I just read the whole thread again, and see your daughter is 22 with a child.  My apologies. And that she didnt have a flu shot. 

All of that aside.  Each progression of the illness and recovery from Guillan Barre is unique, I wish your daughter the best.  What I want to tell you is that with any Paralytic condition, at least at this time, if a person is diagnosed with cancer (not a pleasant thought, but I just need to tell you this)....people who have a history of having a paralytic illness such as Guillan Barre or Polio, cannot have Chemotherapy as a treatment for their cancer.  Doctors will treat them with Radiation, but they will not treat their cancer with Chemo.  It has something to do with causing the immune system to have a recurrance of the paralytic condition, so they will not do it...as they would not with my brother.  I know people never plan to get Cancer, but it's also a shock to find out later that a condition you had when you were really young (my brother was 17) can keep you from getting the full treatment for Cancer when you are older (he was 47)......

Please know that I've seen people with Guillain-Barre, as awful as it is, make an absolutely full recovery.  We'll all be thinking of you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter, such things are difficult at any age but especially so in the young. Keep us posted on her diagnosis.
Were it GBS, I've worked with many recovering patients with that diagnosis when I was on inpatient rehab.  They all made a full or near full recovery, but its not easy and takes time.  MS however, has its own course of symptoms which often don't take a typical course like GBS.

MS also has its own unique course and set of issues for each person.  Also it can have periods where the person returns to complete and total normal and the symptoms may never come back or not for years, and there are medications that can treat or alleviate the conditions. 

I have been plagued by neurological issues for years and they are still ruling out MS, it is very elusive to diagnosis unless a doctor wants to just say "you have MS"...none of mine want to!!  (Even with Lesions on my brain, recurrent and permanent numbness in my extremities, constant headaches, etc, etc )

I hope your daughter gets satisfactory answers as soon as possible...she may also end up being checked for things like Lyme disease, Lupus, etc, etc....there are sooooo many Neurological issues that can cause her symptoms, the hope is that they resolve quickly and she can return to normal. I always do!!   I will be thinking positive thoughts for you and your family....Tina/tfpets
