I have 2 beautiful 7 months old peahens and last night the person who I initial got the eggs I hatched them from brought over a male peacock as a gift.
The male peacock is one year old already (from what he told me) and he is used to sitting outside ( he lives in the mountains) in the cold. Because he never gives any medication to his birds, this one is no different - no vaccines, no deworming, nothing.
Because he didn't know any better, he went ahead and put the male peacock with my 2 females for 10 minutes until he alerted me of his presence and the gift he had brought. I immediately took him out and placed him outside in the area of my yard I usually keep my peahens when its nice.
Compared to my peahens he is 0.8 their size if not smaller, he doesn't look so well fed. Please help me by telling me what vaccines, deworming etc I should do to this peacock before I introduce him to my peahens. How long do I have to wait until I introduce him to them ? If he has an incurable infectious disease - how long would I have to wait to confirm he has or doesn't have one?
I am limited by the fact that I don't know any veterinarians that deal with birds in my area, and that could do a blood or a poop test. (i live in Bucharest Romania)
For my peahens the vaccines go like this:
1. Against NEWCASTLE - at a few days old
2. Against Fowl cholera - at 2 months old
3. Gave them preventive treatment for coccidiosis
4. Once every 2 months I deworm them
