I have incubated eggs from my school's Hobby Farm as part of our Agri-Science class. Out of the 12 we've incubated 10 have hatched and we are so proud.

It's been 4 days and the last two chicks that have hatched have not fully fluffed up and have patches with out any fluff at all, especially around their very large crops.

I started giving them droplets of mineral oil yesterday to help them process their food. I haven't added any grit to their brooding box yet, but plan on adding some tomorrow. Am I doing this right? I feel like every five seconds I am frantically searching this blog for information on my chicks. Needless to say I'm a worried momma!

Oh and also, my eldest chick, who one of my students so kindly named him...Justin Beaker....has developed wonderfully but now seems to have one swollen shut eye. I have put a warm compress on it with a little bit of saline. Will this help, and should I be concerned?

Thanks everyone!
