Hello, I'm super new to chicks. I bought six at the feed store a few days ago, and so far everyone seems pretty happy and healthy. But I had a few questions:

Catalana chick 1-2 weeks old seems a little bit weak and sleepier than the others. It is eating and drinking fine so far, and it seems curious along with the other chick scratching and digging and pecking in the brooder. It had a little pasty butt, but I've been making sure it's clear, and no blood in stool as far as I can see. I might just be being paranoid. It also looks like it still has a black scab where the umbilical was. I've put Neosporin on it. It's hard to tell if the chick is getting sick, or just still recovering from a hernia--any ideas? Here is a pic--it's the sleepy yellow one in the back.

I don't want the rest of my chicks to get sick :(

I suppose I should stock up on corid and sav-a-chick just in case.

Sounds like everything is going well so far. I would just continue to watch it and watch the poo. Mine had the little "belly button" scab for about a week...but then I stopped looking at it so it could've been longer. Just make sure it can get away from heat if it needs to. An overly warmed chick can start out by looking overly sleepy but too much heat can also kill them!
Adorable chickies by the way!

The little catalana still seems a little sleepy. But I gave them a little hard boiled egg, and everyone went nuts! The catalana and leghorn were particularly wild over it. The other figured out they could just hop in my hand and peck to their hearts content.
