So I just got a few chicks at tsc a few days ago. The bin was labeled as Columbian Rock Cross pullets. After doing some browsing I think I may have rhode island reds instead.
I can't find much for pics on the rock crosses but the one week old pics I see of the rir look pretty much exactly like mine.

I dunno. I don't know much about breeds and all that tho.

Anyways, these pics are from when I first brought them home. I'll try and get some better pics today as they have more feathers now.

Could you ask them which hatchery they came from? I know Tractor Supply uses different ones. You might be able to get some help on that hatchery’s website.

I don’t know what a Columbian Rock Cross pullet is. A Google search didn’t help much. Things like that are just marketing names and don’t really give a lot of information unless you know who is marketing them.

Those chicks are really confusing with that name. Columbian usually means a white chicken, based on silver, with black markings on the tail, neck, and maybe wings. Think Delaware or Light Sussex. But if that is the case those chicks should be yellow, not reddish since silver dominates gold and turns the down yellow. There is another possibility. A red rooster over a Columbian hen will give you red sex links, the pullets will have reddish down. This is actually my guess but I don’t know. Let me know which hatchery they came from, that would be interesting.

I'll call and ask in a bit. Here are some more pics. I just went and took these.
They had a bin of the Red Sex Links also. I just got the columbian ones because I hadn't heard of them and when I googled them I couldn't find much on chicks but the adult ones were pretty so I grabbed a few. So now I'm like what in the world did I really buy?? Haha.

According to the lady at tsc they use 5 different hatcheries.
But this shipment came from Hoover Hatchery & Mt Healthy Hatchery. Both in OH I believe she said.

Those look just like mine from the assorted pullet bin at TSC, and I was wondering the same thing. Mine seem to be bigger than the other chicks the same age.

I did not see anything at Hoover Hatchery. Mt Healthy had Columbia Rock Cross but they cross a Columbia male with a RIR female to get those. Sorry, but those chicks are all going to have yellow down, not red. Those chicks cannot be from that cross.

What I think you got is what they call a Red Cross chicken, a RIR male over a Columbia female. The pullets from that cross will have red down just like yours. I think they were just mislabeled. They should be really nice hens. You probably did well.

As long as they are friendly and all turn out to be hens I really don't mind what they are. Haha. I just wanted pullets.
I don't mind at least one rooster. But I keep mine in a fenced in run, so one rooster is all I can handle. I already have two red sex links. I guess I'll just have some more red girls.
